# Barrier Device

Barrier devices, such as face shields and pocket masks, are used during CPR to protect both the rescuer and the casualty from potential infections. These devices create a barrier between the rescuer's mouth and the casualty's mouth and nose.

**What is a Barrier Device?**

## Using a Barrier Device

1. Place the barrier device over the casualty’s mouth and nose.
2. Ensure a good seal to prevent air leakage.
3. Perform rescue breaths through the device according to CPR guidelines.
4. Clean or dispose of the barrier device according to hygiene protocols after use.
